Enjoy Google and Twitter Fun Without Internet

It’s been nearly 10 years since Hurricane Ike devastated Galveston, and government agencies are still working to complete recovery projects before a state-imposed deadline.
Thursday marks a decade since Ike made landfall and swamped parts of the island city, leaving more than $29 billion worth of damage and 37 deaths.

Officials are working to finish as many recovery projects as possible before the state’s December 2019 deadline so the city can be reimbursed for the work.
Galveston has eight U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development projects currently underway, including street and sewer work and a pump station. City Council is scheduled to vote on additional Ike-related projects Thursday.
Parts of Texas are also still recovering from Hurricane Harvey, which hit last year.
Here’s some grim back-of-the-envelope math for insurers: Hurricane Florence may wreak $15 billion to $20 billion in covered losses from wind and coastal storm-surge, if the past is any guide, according to catastrophe modeler Risk Management Solutions.
That range is based on benchmarking two similar hurricanes from decades past — Hazel in 1954 and Hugo in 1989 — and translating their damage into present-day figures, according to Tom Sabbatelli, an event response manager at RMS. It doesn’t include the potential cost of inland flooding.

his post is part of a series sponsored by ITC (Insurance Technologies Corporation).
In a study co-sponsored by ITC, we discovered agencies who are heavy users of technology are twice as likely to have better sales processes. In addition, agencies who use marketing and sales technology sell more policies and show larger revenue growth.
The right agency technology can set you up for success. But, there’s a lot to consider. I’ve previously outlined some technology essentials for today’s agency to remain competitive. Here are a few more essentials to round out your agency technology stack.

1. Internet

Don’t opt for the cheapest internet plan with a slow connection. Today, your business all but relies on a good internet connection. Make sure to choose a provider that is quick and dependable. You want a connection that is fast and reliable.
Making a client on the phone wait while you try to download something does not leave a good impression. Consider download and upload speeds as well as a provider’s uptime.

2. Scanner, Printer, Copier

While the world goes increasingly digital, sometimes there is still paper. But, you don’t have to keep that paper. In fact, it’s better if you don’t. Scan it into your agency management system, and then shred and throw it out. Even better if you get a scanner that can also serve as your agency’s printer and copier.

3. E-Signature

Your goal as an insurance agency should be to remove as much friction from the insurance buying process as you can. You need to make it easy for a consumer to choose you. Requiring a prospect to print, sign, and fax (or scan and then email) a document is friction. Using e-signature removes that friction.

4. Firewall

You’ll be using the internet to connect to a lot of services and programs. A strong firewall is critical to securing your agency’s data. It keeps unauthorized external users like hackers from accessing your data. A firewall can also block viruses, spam and malicious applications.
Bottom line? The potential exposure and damage to your agency without a firewall is enormous. This technology is essential for your new agency.

5. Cloud Storage

Cloud storage is where you store your agency’s data on remote servers you access using the internet. There are a few key reasons why your agency should use cloud storage.
First, you save money because you don’t need to buy and maintain a local server. Second, if your office gets vandalized or destroyed in a natural disaster, you’ll still have all your data. Finally, cloud storage gives you greater flexibility with access to data from anywhere.

Many experts agree that a website should be updated every two to three years. As website trends and design best practices are constantly evolving, the three-year mark is typically when a website starts to show its age. If you’re like most insurance agents, your website is the last thing on your mind. You spend a chunk of your marketing dollars to keep your website running, but you aren’t actively using it. Your website is covered in figurative spider webs and, as a result, you may not be receiving many, if any, referrals from it.

Ask yourself this: “Is my website working as hard as I am?” If not, it’s time to kick it into gear. Here are four essentials do’s and don’ts for a website design that generates leads:
  1. Don’t over-complicate. Do make it simpler.
It can be easy to fall into the trap of “more is better,” but when it comes to web design, this isn’t the case. Website design simplicity doesn’t translate to boring design or elementary coding. Rather, a minimalist website eliminates unnecessary and extraneous information. There aren’t confusing navigation tabs, long breadcrumb trails to hidden pages, and a cluttered sidebar or homepage. Rather than overwhelm your visitor, you want to guide them to where you want them to go. Focus on using minimal (yet relevant) content, high-quality images, a simple navigation, and a few select attention-grabbing links or call-to-action boxes.
  1. Don’t rely solely on images. Do incorporate video.
Just a decade ago, adding video to a website was a luxury. Today, it’s essential for every site. Video has a profound impact on the average time a visitor spends on your website. Why? It slows down your website visitor. Their mind isn’t deciding whether your website is a worthy place to spend time; they are too busy watching the video. It should come as no surprise then that the average user spends 88% more time on a website with video. Video also attracts 300% more monthly website visitors and results in a 157% increase in organic traffic from search engines. Video doesn’t just modernize your website; it also increases traffic and leads.
  1. Don’t write a novel. Do make scanning easy.
After spending months of your time and energy crafting your website, you are probably hoping that visitors will read every single word. Because of this, you may be tempted to write long, lengthy paragraphs about your practice. While these sections are full of great information, generally visitors are just going to be scanning the content. Use headers, subheads, and bullet points throughout your content to break up longer sections and save the extended prose for your autobiography.
  1. Don’t think solely about computers. Do make your site mobile-responsive.
While the rise of website domination originated on the PC, it is now being taken over by mobile traffic. 25% of Americans only use mobile devices to access the Internet, with nine out of 10 mobile searches leading to action and 70% of mobile searches leading to action within one hour. It’s important for your website to be easy to navigate both on a computer and a mobile device. If your website hasn’t been updated in the last two years, it may be mobile friendly, but it’s likely not mobile responsive. Mobile-friendly means that your site doesn’t have any Flash animation and, while it can be accessed on a device, it may have limited usability. Mobile-responsive means your site changes in size and layout based on the device on which a user is viewing it, making it easy for anyone to navigate.
  1. Don’t let your visitors get lost. Do encourage them to take action.
We’ve all been sucked into the black hole of the Internet: watch one video and two hours later you’ve watched every recommended video on YouTube. The truth is, the Internet is full of information and it is easy to lose track of what you set out to do. Make it easy for your visitors to make an appointment with you, follow you on social media, or read your latest blog article by providing an abundance of form fills and social buttons. We suggest having a “Contact Us” option on every page of your website. Keep the forms straight-forward with limited required information — a name, email, and phone number — and your guests will be more likely to fill it out.

sing the right technology in your agency is important. But, is switching systems always the answer?
Not necessarily. You should take a hard look at your current insurance agency software before giving up on it.
If your comparative rating system does more than rating, are you using it to its fullest potential? Are you using every feature available to you in your agency management system? Is your website designed and optimized to attract traffic and generate leads? Are you doing everything you can with your website to maximize what you get?
It is possible the insurance agency software you already have may be all you need. But, you might not know it if you’re not fully using the systems.
At ITC we talk with a lot of agents about their software needs. These are the most common features or capabilities we see agents not using in their systems.

Comparative Raters

Reporting
Your comparative rater needs to do more than rating. It needs to have reporting capabilities. The data in your rater is valuable and can tell you a lot about your agency and how you’re doing.
For example, the number of quotes your agency is doing by producer, location, line of business, company, and lead source. Reasons why your producers aren’t binding quotes. That quality of data entry and your closing ratio.
Make sure to check your reports every week. You will stay on top of what’s happening in your agency.
Lead Sources
If you’re not using the lead source field for every policy you quote, you need to be.
When your lead source data is inconsistent, you’ll never know which of your marketing efforts is working. Knowing where every lead comes from means you can focus you marketing budget on the tactics that work, which can mean more sales.
Make it a requirement for your producers to enter this field every time. And, hold them accountable to it.

GET YOUR VOTERCARD OR CHANGE DETAILS ONLINE...

August 22, 2018
The voter card is issued to all Indian citizens who have attained the age of 18 years and qualify to be a voter. One has to apply on prescribed Form-6 of Election Commission attached with proof of ID, Indian nationality, age and residence.
Those of "unsound mind", convicted of "corrupt practices", or offenses related to elections are ineligible to vote.
Applicants have to submit paper Form-6 to their municipal corporation / cantonment board of the area.
Applicants can also apply online on the website of the chief electoral officer given for that State.

How to check voter ID status application status online

  1. Go the National Voter Services Portal and scroll to Track application status and then tap or click Click here. Alternatively, you may directly go to the NVSP online application status page.
  2. Now enter the reference ID for your voter ID application. It should be in the email or SMS you received after sending your application online.
This will show you the status of your voter ID card application. There are four steps/ possible statuses involved in this process — Submitted, BLO Appointed, Field Verified, and Accepted/ Rejected. The highlighted steps are completed while the dull ones are yet to be completed. Note that these stages are for new voter ID applications and those steps for other types of services may vary. At the moment, this appears to be the only way to check the status of your voter ID application online.

Can I check voter ID card status by SMS?

We tried looking for ways to check the status of your voter ID card application via SMS but that service is only offered in some states and only to check if your name is on the voter list. Checking voter ID application status via SMS doesn’t appear to be an option right now, so you can use the method described above to check online if your voter ID application has been processed.
